I wanted to attend this session as it will be important for me to know about the rules, regulations and health and safety with using this new studio. During this session Chris also gave a few tips and tricks with lighting and videoing within the studio. This lesson was really good for me to attend because I have learnt new things that could help me throughout my project. Attending this session has allowed me to gain more knowledge and refreshed my memory of studio photography. This new knowledge can help me develop my ideas for my FMP.
I now know while shooting in the cove there are rules that must be followed as well as a few tips -
- Use continuous film lights while filming for long periods of time & not modelling bulbs as they are cooler and are made for being used for film. A diffuser can be used with this type of lighting to soften the light.
- No shoes are to be work on the cove - unless full length images are being created but shoe must be cleaned before and not be worn around the studio. Use shoe covered provided or remove shoes.
- No chairs to be laid on the cove however you can lay towels down if you need the model to be steady for filming or photography.
- For beauty images place the model as far forward in the cove as possible to so that the foreground won't be able to be seen.
- Basic camera settings would be F8, 1/160 and ISO 100.
- Ensure that the model is brighter than the background and only use one light for filming.
- The auto balance of the camera can be changed however daylight is normally best.
- In the cove black reflectors can be used to create moody lighting, if you want to create bright images you should bounce as much light as possible using white reflectors.
- It could be best to use soft lighting as it is easier to edit the contrast of the images after - this can be used to create mood for your images.
- Changing the lenses of the camera can be really useful to get the right effects for your shoots. 100mm lenses are good for close up shots and videos, 50mm lenses are goof for further away shots and videos and you must always ensure the lenses are clean. Only 100% cotton materials should be used to clean lenses.
