Zeus – God (male) God of the sky and ruler of the Olympian gods.

Makeup inspiration for this look will be from a painting technique called 'chiaroscuro', translated from Italian meaning 'clear, light' and 'obscure, dark' a juxtaposition of contrasting colour. This look will have contouring and highlighting of the face. While creating this makeup look I will think about the use of lighting on the face. These images below are from Lan Nguyen-Greali Art & Makeup, for these looks she has been inspired by the Baroque Dutch painter and etcher Rembrandt.

My main hair inspiration for Zeus' hair design will be to make a crown structure made from wire and braiding hair.

Gordon sisters – Stone (female). The Gorgons were three monsters who were sisters.
Inspiration for this look will take elements from pop art. Pop art originated in Britain in the mid 1950's, it was typified by its irreverent, devil-may-care attitude. Roy Lichtenstein  once said 'i'm not in the subject matter to try and teach society anything, or try to make the world better in any way'. This image below is a makeup look by  Lan Nguyen-Grealis where she tried to capture humor using basic makeup techies to create this look.

I believe I could take inspiration from this look to use bold lines and simple uses of colour. To stick with the stone effect while designing this look I will use shades of grey and black to resemble to Gordon sisters characteristics. Defined brows will be a very strong feature to this makeup look.

The hair style for The Gordons will be heavily inspired by avant-garde hair. I will also take inspiration from original paintings, accessories and other peoples work which I found on Pinterest.

Aphrodite – Desire (female). Goddess of love, desire and beauty.

Makeup inspiration for this look should be kept soft, shades of yellow will be used to represent openness, happiness, innocence as well as powerful life energy merging into orange as it is a warm and inviting colour. These colours will be used softly on the eyes with natural dewy and highlighted skin. The model should be youthful to show beauty and desire.

Hair inspiration is to create something with depth  and an overall romantic feel.

Hades – Underworld (male). Lord of the underworld and ruler of the dead.

For Hades I want there to be a strong editorial feel. The makeup will be creative with an overall dark feeling. Deadly dark looking makeup should be used to represent the connection with the underworld. Purple will be used to represent mystical and paranormal elements relating to magical and spiritual elements.

Hades hair will brushed back and sleek. He will have a slightly longer than stubbly beard.

Hecate – Witchcraft (female). Goddess of magic, witchcraft, the night, moon, ghosts and necromancy.

Makeup inspiration for this look should include dark and defined features.

Hair inspiration for this look will be to use colour and shapes to represent the night and the moon. There should be a messy finish to the hair to show reference to witchcraft and the magical world.

Athena – Courage (female). Goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, the arts and crafts.

Makeup inspiration for this look is impressionism which was developed by Claude Monet and other Paris-based artist from the early 1860’s. This type of art is created by working quickly with patches of colour and brush strokes within the paintings. Brush work was often used rapidly with spaces in between creating depth. Within impressionism art it is important to understand how light will affect the finished outcome. I believe I can use this to create different finishes and textures within makeup.  These image below are from Lan Nguyen-Greali Art & Makeup which was inspired by a French artist Pierre Auguste Renoir.

This image below was created by Charlie Mindu, I believe I could create texture similar to this in the hair to resemble a lion which will also resemble courage and strength. The colour of the wig that will be used will be orange to show warmth and openness of her character. The hair style will be soft.

Feedback & grade of proposal

Grade - B3

Tutors feedback of proposal:

After receiving my grade back for the proposal I feel as though I need to really push myself to ensure a 2:1 at graduation. I also need to begin testing and developing my ideas as soon as possible so that my designs will be as successful as possible. I don not want to add any sound to the images as I think this will be distracting to the viewer.  

After reading my feedback i have noticed that my project will be great to aim and theatre companies as it will show case my practical hair skills with elements of my makeup skills. This will be great for theatre companies to see as I think that it will hopefully lead to paid work once the exhibition has been published.
